In the heart of Vallet, the capital of Muscadet, stands a place unlike any other. Château La Guipière is not just an exceptional vineyard; it is the guardian of a unique history, made up of architectural elegance, passionate dramas, and a renewal breathed into it by three passionate friends.
A Touch of Italy in the Nantes Region

Upon arrival at the estate, one is immediately struck by an aesthetic rarely seen in the region. The buildings (the stable, the tack room, the orangery and this iconic tower) embody the DNA of Tuscan architecture.
Built in the 19th century on land whose origins date back to the 15th century, Château La Guipière was once a jewel of refinement. Its red bricks and harmonious lines evoked a gentle way of life and prestige. Yet, behind this picture-postcard facade, a tragedy would seal the stone's fate.
The Sacrifice of a Castle: A Romantic Drama
The 20th century marked a tragic and almost surreal turning point for the house. Legend has it that the owner at the time, heartbroken by an unbearable love affair, decided to ward off bad luck in the most radical way possible.
To erase the memories and close a painful chapter of her life, she chose to sacrifice her home: she burned down the castle.
Of its former splendor, only the ground floor remained, finally demolished in 1939 by a stonemason from La Chapelle-Heulin. Today, the château no longer exists in its original monumental form, but its spirit has survived. It now infuses every plot of vines, transforming this past of ashes into a future of light.
From Ash to Vine: A Succession of Passionate Individuals
After 1939, the estate passed through the century in the hands of dedicated owners who knew how to preserve its essence: the terroir. From the Charpentier family to Philippe Nevoux, each has contributed their own invisible stone to the edifice.
Today, a new chapter, marked by camaraderie and audacity, is being written. Three longtime friends, Fabien Rycroft, Charles Jannin, and Sylvain Gendry, have taken the reins. Together, they are restoring Château La Guipière to its former glory, no longer through its stone, but through its wine.
Excellence in Glass: A Terroir of Character
The La Guipière vineyard is a living testament to Nantes' cultural heritage. On these lands steeped in history, the Melon de Bourgogne grape variety flourishes, yielding Muscadet Sèvre et Maine wines of exceptional finesse. The wines capture the essence of the terroir, offering a tension and freshness for which the estate is renowned.
Pure Minerality: The wines capture the essence of the subsoil, offering a tension and freshness that make the estate famous.
Shared Expertise: The vision of the three partners combines modernity and respect for traditions, creating vintages that are true invitations to share.
The White Madwoman's Wager: A Return to the Roots
But Fabien, Charles, and Sylvain's audacity doesn't stop there. To enrich the estate's signature style, they chose to preserve a historic grape variety: Folle Blanche.
Once the queen of the region before the phylloxera crisis, Folle Blanche (also known as "Gros Plant") is a grape variety with character, renowned for its crisp vivacity. Already present on the estate today, it receives special attention, with the ambition, in the near future, to continue its replanting—a strong choice that affirms the estate's commitment to a lasting connection with its heritage.
Shared Expertise
The three partners' vision blends modernity with respect for tradition, creating wines that are true invitations to share. Between the masterful classicism of Melon de Bourgogne and the renewal promised by Folle Blanche, the estate is shaping a future where the diversity of the terroir is fully expressed.
